What Inspired Her Second Earth
Her Second Earth was inspired by my own experiences.
For years, I was in an emotionally and verbally abusive marriage. At the time, I didn’t recognize it as emotional abuse. I’m not even sure he understood that what he was doing was harmful—though even now, I sometimes find myself defending him. Maybe because he’s the father of my children. Healing is complicated like that.
I only learned what gaslighting meant a few years ago. Without realizing it, I had slowly stopped trusting my own instincts—or anyone else’s. Therapy helped me name what I had lived through, and more importantly, helped me begin to trust myself again. I am a very different person today. I’m learning how to love, heal, and move forward.
During my hardest days, writing was my escape. Sometimes I wrote about my life. Other times, I wrote romance—stories filled with hope, connection, and second chances. I started countless manuscripts that never went anywhere. Until one day, my son noticed I was stuck and said something simple that changed everything: “They always say write what you know. You love sci-fi. Why don’t you write that?”
That moment became the spark for Her Second Earth.
The first chapter isn’t a direct retelling of my life—it’s fiction. But through Faith, I found something real. I began writing this book before I ever stepped into therapy, and as the story grew, so did my healing. Eventually, I found the courage to seek help, and it remains one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
I don’t dwell on “what ifs.” They don’t serve healing. What matters is that stories—especially stories about survival, hope, and second chances—can help us find our way back to ourselves.
Her Second Earth exists because sometimes a new world is the safest place to begin again.
If you’re drawn to stories about healing, resilience, and second chances, I hope Faith’s journey resonates with you.
